A vigorous Columbine that grows to almost three feet tall in the garden. A southwestern native, Golden Columbine produces sunny-yellow flowers that are long lasting, and borne in dense clumps on long, slender stems. To keep this native perennial plant blooming, deadhead before flowers go to seed. A long lasting Columbine in the garden, or as a cut flower.

CULTURAL NOTES: Columbines hybridize readily in the garden, so try planting individual colors at least 20 feet away from each other to preserve their individuality over the years. Prefers compost-enriched soil with regular irrigation and protection from the afternoon sun.

NOMENCLATURE NOTES: 'Aquilegia' ( "Eagle's claw", referring to the flower morphology). Columbine has always been associated with doves, known as columba in Latin, and so became a symbol of the Holy Spirit in Medieval Europe.
