EUONYMUS ALATUS FIRE BALL is an improved selection of Euonymus 'Compacta' that is superior to the standard 'Burning Bush' in color, branching, size and hardiness. Euonymus Fire Ball produces brilliant vivid scarlet red fall color on a nice, compact and tightly branched bush that only grows to 5 feet high by 4 feet wide. This nice tight growth habit makes Euonymus Fire Ball perfect for the smaller garden or when planted adjacent to walkways or when used as a hedge. Winter hardy to USDA hardiness zone 4, Euonymus Fire Ball requires little maintenance or care. Fertilize in the early spring with an all purpose organic fertilizer such as Down to Earth and trim as needed to maintain growth. During the summer, Euonymus Fire Ball is covered in glossy light green leaves that serve as a nice backdrop for more colorful or flowering garden plants. In the winter after the scarlet foliage has dropped, the mature Euonymus Fire Ball shrub puts on a nice show of winter texture interest with deeply ridged branches. This shrub is shipped in a standard nursery trade 1 gallon container.
