RHODODENDRON CATAWBIENSE 'LEE'S DARK PURPLE ' produces a mass of deep, dark purple flowers that literally blanket this large, upright rhododendron. While Lee's Dark Purple Rhododendron is an extremely hardy rhododendron, it is also one of the more heat tolerant. As with all rhododendrons, Lee's prefers an eastern exposure receiving only morning sun. Rhododendrons prefer moist, acidic, well-drained organically amended soil. Rhododendrons are versatile landscape shrubs and can be used as a specimen plant, grouped in masse to produce a flowering hedge, planted in a woodland settings or as a focal point in a shade garden. Both the flower and the foliage of the rhododendron is useful in cut flower arrangements.
